The AP got involved in the process of amending the e Statute of Military Personnel of the Armed Forces (EMFAR) , through several meetings at EMGFA and with the former Secretary of State for National Defence. AP considers that the changes introduced in Decree-Law 77/2023 of 4 of September, are extremely harmful to the Junior Rates (Soldiers). Besides, – to provide a few examples – Major Corporals are at the same level as Corporals and 1st Sailors, which is deemed as unacceptable. Besides, in the Permanent Staff Class, there is no promotion based on seniority. Consequently, recruitment and retention of military personnel in the Portuguese Armed Forces continues to be hindered.  Therefore, AP will request from His Excellency the Secretary of State for National Defence, a meeting to discuss this urgent matters.
