The event is organised with the kind support of the Members of the European Parliament Ivo Belet and Clare Moody.
While all European states send their militaries on military missions, the efforts to harmonize the pre-, during and after deployment care remain quite limited. Especially with regards to medical care, it seems surprising that military personnel who comes back from the same CSDP mission is treated differently – depending on the home country of the soldier. Even though the symptoms of mental health problems in particular are the same no matter which nationality the soldier has – research on prevention and treatment of mental health disorders and Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorders in particular remain nationally fragmented.
Here, the EU could act to ensure a closer military mental health research collaboration between its Member States to the benefit of the military personnel serving in EU.
